A good book is...
Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961) said "All good books have one thing in common – they are truer than if they really happened and after you have finished reading one you will feel that all that happened to you".

Something that is very important to me in a good book is that there is an element of magic. I love it when a book transports me to an unexpected place or introduces me to an unexpected character. I like a book to allow me to believe that anything is possible - and I love books that are infused with a sense of authenticity - even in the most unlikely circumstances. This is best exemplified in my all-time favourite book, The Vintner's Luck by Elizabeth Knox.
Magic, unexpected, authenticity... Thank you for your interesting comment.
Allan Ahlberg, famous British writer for children said: "Every good book, so we're told, has a beginning, a middle and an end." :)

"A good book has a really good ending."
"When you finished a good book, you feel that you miss a friend"
"A good book keeps me going for a long time" (=can be read with pleasure again and again)
"You can't put it down"
"A good book tells things you want to believe, in a way you can believe"
"A good book is one you can relate to"
The main symptom of a good book is that you can't put it down. You wait expectantly for the next 2mn or 2 hours you can sit down with it. It is like surfing on the story and you feel enlightened when the last page is turned.
For me personnaly, I get a buzz about books that explore the human condition and historical events.
Good old "To kill a mocking bird"
and "Shantaram"
